Held April 11th 2015 At The Runway In

Downtown Lansing

to inform, offer support, and raise proceeds to fight

against sexual trauma in support of childhood survivors in our community.

I developed this project idea as a means to use my fashion designing ability to give back to the community. I then invited a fellow design student, Anami Chan, to co- design the show with me.

Anami and myself met with five survivors of sexual trauma to listen to their stories. We invited them to share as little or as many details about their assault and how it has impacted their lives, as they felt comfortable with. From these interviews, we drew our inspiration for the creation of fashion designs.

For the show, we created one concept design and two supportive accessory designs to depict each survivor’s journey.  Each supporting design had a signature accessory that was auctioned off to raise proceeds for the foundation. Accompanying the presentation of each of these mini collections was prerecording spoken words of the survivor’s story.
